The audit log

A read-only trail of every action, kept forever.

1 min read

The audit log is the read-only history of your workspace. Every action that changes data, who did it and when, is recorded and kept. You cannot edit or delete an entry, and that is the point: it is the record you fall back on when someone asks what happened.

Open the audit log

It sits under Audit Log in Admin and needs the View audit log permission. Entries are listed newest first, 50 to a page.

What an entry shows

Each line records the timestamp, the actor (the person who acted, or System for automated steps), the action, and the entity it touched. Where a value changed, the entry keeps both the old and the new value side by side.

Corrections made from the leave log also carry the reason that was typed at the time, so a deleted request tells you not just that it was deleted but why. See The editable leave log.

Filter and export

Filter by date range (the view opens on the last 30 days), actor, action or entity type. Exporting to CSV is gated on a separate Export data permission, so a role can be allowed to read the log in-app without being allowed to extract it. The export honours whatever filters you have set.

Audit entries are never removed, not even when the record they describe is deleted. A deleted leave request still leaves its deletion, and its reason, in the log.
